Posting is scheduled to begin on 22 July. Hurrah!

This post describes how to post your fanwork for the Mini Bang.

The posting schedule is here if you want to check it: http://merlinrpf.livejournal.com/207256.html

1. Post your fanwork online

You can post your fanwork at any time during the 24 hours of your scheduled day (based on your local time).

You can post your fanwork to this community, to your own journal, to your AO3 / tumblr / deviantart account, or to any other platform. Feel free to post wherever you'd normally post, as long as your fellow fans are able to access it.

If you post to AO3, you are more than welcome to add the fanwork to the Merlin RPF Fests collection. There is also a sub-collection which enables you to post anonymously if you wish: Merlin RPF Fests - anon entries.

2. Post a link to your fanwork to this community

You need to be a member of merlinrpf to have posting access.

Make sure you've posted your fanwork online, and it's fully viewable, BEFORE posting to the community.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box below, and complete the details. Alternatively, use your own version, as long as you're covering the significant points. Feel free to add more details, as you think relevant!

Feel free to also include a banner / art preview / thumbnail in the post, that links to the fanwork.

3. Tag your post

Tag your entry to the community with the following tags:

  • Characters: 'cast: [name]' for individual characters, as necessary.

  • Type: 'fanworks: [type]'.

  • Relationships: 'pairing: [name/name]' for the main relationship(s), as necessary.

  • Rating: select one only, from G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17.

  • Word count: for fic, select one range only.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for creating for this fest! I really appreciate it, and I'm sure all our fellow fans do, too.

Everyone: Please let's share the love, comments and kudos!

Any queries or problems, please do get in touch with me, and we'll sort it out.

Evening, all!

Well, two of us made it to the finish line, so let's give three cheers for two new Merlin RPF fanworks!

If any more creators out there want to claim a posting date, please feel free to comment against the check-in post. The more the merrier! ♥

Thank you, all! Given that the Prompts Fest last year seemed popular, I'll get going on setting up one of those, perhaps starting in August. Feel free to provide thoughts / ideas / feedback.

Comments to this post are NOT screened.

Huzzah! It is time for creators to check in and claim their posting dates. I suspect we're not going to be totally inundated with fanworks, so let's begin by assuming posting dates from Saturday 22 July to Tuesday 25 July inclusive. We can always continue longer if we need to!

Please check in and stake your claim in a new comment directly under this post. If you have more than one fanwork to post, then use a new comment and claim a different date for each one.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box below.

Complete the template with the following details.

  • Your name(s): The name(s) you'll be posting under, including any collaborators. It is perfectly fine to post anonymously.

  • Title: The title of your fanwork. Don't worry if it's a working title for now! Just something to identify it.

  • Fanwork type: The nature of your fanwork, as defined in this post: Fic / Drabble set / Art / Icon set / Fanmix / Fanvid / Other (please specify).

  • Character(s) and/or Pairing(s): Who are the main characters?

  • Your preferred date(s): On which date(s) between 22 and 25 July inclusive would you prefer to post? If you list a few dates, I'll assume they are in order of preference.

  • Date(s) you CANNOT post: Are there any date(s) on which you absolutely CANNOT post?

I'll PM you as soon as I can to confirm your posting date (or possibly negotiate a different one). If we're not already friends, let's connect!

Comments are screened.

Planning ahead…

If life happens, and you cannot post on your scheduled date, please don't hesitate to contact me (or comment on this post), and we'll come up with a Plan B.

If you switch dates with other participants, that's fine – but please do let me know ahead of time!

If you end up finishing an extra fanwork before the end of the fest, please comment against this post. I'm more than happy to add posting dates if called for! (I really wouldn't mind at all if you haven't gone through the fest's registration process already.)

Information about posting will be available soon. I am so looking forward to seeing what you've all come up with!

I will do a separate post with a 'posting schedule' as soon as it starts to take shape.

Comments are screened.

It's time for the creators to check in and let us know how they're going.

Please feel free to check in, if you think you can create a fill in time to post from 22 July - even if you didn't originally register for the fest. The more RPF, the merrier!

Please read the Registration and Fills Guidelines if you want to refresh your memory about the fest.

Post each "check in" in a new comment directly under this post.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box at the bottom of this post.

Complete the template with your fanwork details.

  • Type of Fanwork: What type of fanwork are you planning to post? See the Registrations and Fills Guidelines for a list of possibilities.

  • Character(s) / Pairing(s) / Moresome(s): Who is most involved in the story and/or who is involved with whom…? Focus on the main character(s), and any secondary character(s) with a key role.

  • Theme / Setting / Inspiration: Give us an idea of what you're creating.

  • Current stage: What stage is your project at? Are you confident you'll be able to post the fanwork in late July?

  • I'm looking for…: Do you need or would you like a collaborator or beta? People interested in working with you can get in contact via the comments or elsewhere.

Registering and Creating

Anyone can register for the mini bang and contribute a fanwork. All Merlin RPF fans are welcome!

You can contribute a fanwork anonymously.

Collaborations between creators are very welcome. Partnerships of creators with two or more different types of fanwork (e.g. fic and art, dance and knitting) are also very welcome. Creators will need to organise this themselves, either in their own space or via the registrations.

Creators can post as many fanworks as they like.

All work must be edited or betaed.

Types of Fanworks

All kinds of fanworks are accepted, as long as they meet the following requirements.

  • Fic: A minimum of 5,000 words is required for fiction. The piece must be complete, and it must stand alone (even if it relates to other work).

  • Drabble set: This is defined as a set of ten (or more) drabbles, each a minimum of 100 words, and all relating to an overall theme. The set must be complete, and must be able to stand alone.

  • Art: This includes traditional, graphic, manips, and so on. At least one completed piece must be submitted. If the artist wishes, they can also post related drafts and sketches.

  • Icon set: This is defined as a set of twenty-five (or more) icons, all relating to an overall theme. The set must be complete.

  • Fanmix: A minimum of ten songs with a theme. This must have a little blurb explaining the choice of songs, and related ‘cover’ art is always welcome.

  • Fanvid: A minimum of three minutes in length.

  • Other: Any other fanworks (such as podfics, crafts, manual arts, and so on) are very welcome. These fanworks should be substantial in ways equivalent to the above requirements. Please use the comments on this post if you want to share details, ask for collaborators or advice, or have questions for the mod.

Content

The goal here is to be as inclusive as possible. All ‘characters’ and all pairings / moresomes are welcome. All ratings. All genres, tropes and kinks.

Let’s try to include the rare pairs and lower profile ‘characters’ as well as the more popular.

Let’s also include general and ‘character’-related work as well as romantic / sexual relationships.

Fusions and crossovers are welcome – as well as dealing with work, characters and relationships outside the Merlin family – as long as at least one of the main characters is a Merlin actor.

Posting

A posting schedule will be agreed once creators start checking in.

On your posting date, you can post your fanwork to your own journal, to your AO3 / tumblr / deviantart account, or to any other platform. However, you must also post to this community, in the agreed format, with a link to where the fanwork is hosted. (Details to follow.)

An AO3 collection is available for all [livejournal.com profile] merlinrpf fests. Link: http://archiveofourown.org/collections/merlinrpffests

You can post to the AO3 collection anonymously using this 'child' collection: http://archiveofourown.org/collections/merlinrpffests_anon

Fanworks must be created specifically for this fest, and must not appear on any platform before your posting date. However, once you have completed the requirements of this fest, you can then cross-post the fanwork elsewhere.

Each creator must adhere to the fest rules and schedule, or the creator will not be able to post their work as part of this fest.

Hello, everyone! I do apologise for fumbling the ball on starting up a mini bb for the community, which I'd intended to do in the latter part of 2016.

I'd still like to go ahead, starting in mid January 2017, with posting from mid July, if you think you can make that work...?

A few points I've mostly made before:

  • Longer fills would be very welcome, but I think we could set a fairly modest minimum of 10,000 5,000 words for fic, or the equivalent kind of effort in any other type of fanwork?

  • Pairings of creators with two different types of fanwork (e.g. fic and art, dance and knitting) would be very welcome, and I'd love to help with that if I can - but maybe the invitations and offers need to be driven by the creators...? When creators sign up for the mbb, perhaps one of the items is to say whether they're interested in working with a fellow creator. (I just don't think we're a big enough community any more to be able to promise that, for all example, each fic writer will be paired with an artist. I'd be delighted to be proved wrong about.)

  • My intention is that this be slightly more formal than the prompt fest (e.g. creators must have a beta), but otherwise you'll have a feel already about how I run fests - and now is a good chance to make any (polite!) suggestions or requests about how this one will work.

If anyone with design skills could help me with a banner, that would be awesome.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts or expressions of enthusiasm. And otherwise, I promise to actually make it happen this time!

Thank you again, everyone, for taking part in (or even just silently lurking in the dark corners of) our Promptacular Fest 2016! It's been a lot of fun, and proves there's still plenty of life and passion in the Merlin RPF fandom.

So, what mischief shall we get up to next?

Sprucing up the community

I have loved the look and feel of our community, so this is not a criticism. However, we've had some changes, the banner is MIA, and after proudly being in existence for almost eight years, it's probably time for a bit of renewal on the design front.

I am happy to do it myself, but I would also be very happy for an artist or designer to volunteer their help. You were all very kind about my Promptacular banners, but I remain an amateur in this regard.

Feel free to offer via the comments, a message, or email, and we'll talk. But I am looking to work on this fairly soon, as I have a smidgen of free time.

Mini big bang!

When I held a poll about what sort of fest or event we wanted, a prompts fest came first, but a mini big bang came close behind. So shall we give that a try...?

This is me thinking aloud:

  • I'm not really across all the other Merlin events and fests that are happening, and maybe it would be almost impossible not to conflict with something. But if anyone wants to suggest there are certain times we should avoid, please illuminate me!

  • We could run our mini bang over the latter part of this year, i.e. starting in July and posting in November, December or January.

  • Longer fills would be very welcome, but I think we could set a fairly modest minimum of 10,000 words for fic, or the equivalent kind of effort in any other type of fanwork?

  • Pairings of creators with two different types of fanwork (e.g. fic and art, dance and knitting) would be very welcome, and I'd love to help with that if I can - but maybe the invitations and offers need to be driven by the creators...? When creators sign up for the mbb, perhaps one of the items is to say whether they're interested in working with a fellow creator.

  • My intention is that this be slightly more formal than the prompt fest (e.g. creators must have a beta), but otherwise you'll have a feel already about how I run fests - and now is a good chance to make any (polite!) suggestions or requests about how this one will work!

Over to you, dear fellow fans! I'm very interested in your responses to all of the above!
