Hello, my friends!

Prompt Fest 2021

We have 21 prompts and 4 claims so far in our annual prompt fest. Plenty of opportunities to join in, if you wish! Claims are due on 14 April.

You can browse all the tempting prompts (and maybe claim one or add to them) on AO3 here: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/MerlinRPF_PromptFest2021

Linking older works to our AO3 collection

Thank you so much to everyone who's offered their thoughts on the whole "moving to AO3" notion. Not wanting to make a big fuss, but [livejournal.com profile] aeris444, [livejournal.com profile] archaeologist_d, [livejournal.com profile] brunettepet, [livejournal.com profile] dylan_mx and [livejournal.com profile] impala_chick have been particularly supportive. ♥

I have now started creating external links in our main AO3 collection to earlier fanworks that were posted to LiveJournal. Due to the sensitivities involved in RPF (though things have certainly shifted since 2008!) I've been limiting this to only those fanworks which are publicly visible even when you're not logged into LJ. I hope that suits everyone, but I will of course delete any external links about which the creator is uncomfortable.

For fanworks which have been posted to AO3 already, I'm inviting them to the collection. Again, I'm happy to hear any concerns!

Copying older prompts across to AO3

I've created a subcollection to provide a new home for our old prompts: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/merlinrpfprompts

I envisage this as being "open" all year round, while also running our annual prompt fests.

I've added my own old unclaimed prompts to the subcollection, and I invite you to do the same. Please note, however, that prompts are considered to be fanworks by the OTW, and it's against the AO3 Terms of Service to post anyone else's works. (There are a few exceptions, but please give me a holler first if you think that applies.)

I will list all the remaining prompts below the cut. I would love it if you posted your own prompts to the AO3 collection! It would be so awesome to make them available to a wider audience!

  • It's fine if you'd prefer to discard or change a prompt, if you feel it's no longer appropriate or can be improved/finessed. I leave that to your discretion!

  • With the anonymous prompts, I will have to rely on your sense of honour to only post those that you know for sure were yours. Thank you for taking care to do the right thing here!

  • I've noted where the prompts have already been claimed and filled. I can see arguments either way for whether to post these or not. I ended up only posting my unclaimed prompts, but I'll leave it to you to decide for yours. (I think it's fair to say that if a prompter posts a filled prompt, it's not that they're dissatisfied with the fill, but only that they think there's more life yet in the prompt.)

Hello, fellow Merlin RPF fans!

We have 20 awesome prompts waiting in our AO3 collection - and only 2 have been claimed so far. Please do leap in there and claim something that tickles your fancy... Feel free to add a prompt or two of your own while you're there!

The due date is 14 April, so you still have over two months in which to create your fill.

We'd all love for you to join in. ♥

P.S. It has occurred to me that we still need a place in which to talk, announce, remind, and comment - even if we're running the actual fest on AO3, we still need this community (or something like it) in which to converse. Any thoughts or reflections on that are welcome!

I'm so sorry I fumbled the ball with this announcement and it's a few days late... Time just slips by, doesn't it? Apologies!

We have received 16 17 lovely and intriguing prompts - and it is now time for you to go forth and claim them!

The prompts are listed here on the fest's AO3 collection.

Our guidelines and rules are listed on the Profile page.

I trust you'll find the contributions so far as inspiring as I do - but if you'd like to add to the inspiration, please do feel free to add more prompts while the fest is running. Claiming will also remain open until the due date of 14 April.

Your imaginings in either form will be very welcome! ♥ Merlin RPF forever!

A few promo banners for the fest that I made myself. If anyone would like to create more, please do!

Feel free to share these wherever you would like to. All promo is welcome. Copy the HTML code from the text box below the image, and paste it where appropriate.

There are also icons at the bottom of the post, if you want to colour-coordinate.

If other fests and communities would like some reciprocal promo, that would be wonderful!

Welcome to The Merlin RPF Promptacular Fest of 2021 - this time hosted on AO3!

We are taking advantage of the terrific functionality of the AO3's Prompt Meme collections to run this fest... though as this is my first time round this particular mulberry bush, the ride may be a little bumpy. Feel free to chip in with any requests or suggestions!

I will keep posting to this LJ community to a minimum, but will at least mark the relevant dates and do a wrapping-up post at the end of the fest.

Schedule

  • Saturday 1 January: Open for sign-ups and prompts.

  • Thursday 14 January: Open for claims.

  • Wednesday 14 April: Assignments due.

  • Saturday 17 April: Fanwork reveals begin.

The fest is now open for you to sign up and add your prompts! Here's the AO3 link again so you can go forth and prompt to your heart's delight!

The FAQ and Rules can be found on the fest's Profile page here. As you will see, I tried to translate our usual guidelines across to the AO3 requirements, so there shouldn't be any big surprises here. As we (I!) become more familiar with the AO3 process, these guidelines may evolve for future fests. Let's see how we go.

I'll post some banners separately. I'd really appreciate you spreading the word!

If you have any queries, please comment here.

And I'm really looking forward to what you come up with! ♥

Hello, fellow RPFers!

I've long been a fan of AO3, and since earlier this year have been volunteering with OTW - which has certainly been a learning experience. One thing I didn't know about was that Collections on AO3 can be set up as Prompt Memes or Gift Exchanges.

While I am still not abandoning LiveJournal, it's fair to say that we only really use this community for the annual Promptacular Fests, and there tends not to be much if any discussion in between times. I'm still happy to also copy our posts over to Dreamwidth, but having a "mirror" community there hasn't really boosted our activity, or not that I'm aware of.

So I wondered whether it would be worth running the annual fests via Prompt Meme collections on AO3. I would still post about them here and on DW, and you could of course continue to use this community as you wish (within the rules!). However, running the fests on AO3 might (a) be a bit less clunky in terms of technology, and (b) be a bit more visible to other RPF fans.

And then I had another thought: I would be happy to go back through this community and post (probably anonymously) any unfilled prompts to an AO3 subcollection. That way we're not losing anyone's good ideas, and it might help spark a few more fanworks!

I'd love to hear from you, whether you're for or against either idea, and of course all queries and concerns are welcome. What do you think...? Feel free to use the poll and/or comments to let me know!

Thank you all for another awesome Prompt Fest this year! I really appreciate the hassle-free participation from everyone - all the prompters, creators, and readers / viewers / commenters involved. It's a fun, creative time, and you make it a breeze to run.

Of course our OTP is still going strong, but you know I like the rare pairs, too, and once more we've created new pairing tags, so I think that's great.

There are still plenty of fine prompts left unclaimed, so feel free to be inspired and to share the results with us at any time throughout the year. There are also two of us who had hoped to write something more in time for the fest, but it wasn't to be, so hopefully that means more fic later in the year!

The following goodies were created for the fest. If you haven't visited the creations yet, please drop by - I'm sure you'll be inspired to leave some kudos and maybe a comment in return for your enjoyment.

Thank you again! See you same time next year...?! ♥

Hurrah! Posting is scheduled to begin on 2 May. I am hoping for another couple of contributions, if all goes well - but there are a few empty days, if anyone would like to participate, whether or not you're responding to a particular prompt.

This post describes how to post your fanwork for the Prompt Fest.

The posting schedule is here if you want to check it: https://merlinrpf.livejournal.com/220137.html

You can also check in and claim a posting date here: https://merlinrpf.livejournal.com/219802.html

1. Post your fanwork online

You can post your fanwork at any time during the 24 hours of your scheduled day (based on your local time).

You can post your fanwork to this community, to your own journal, to your AO3 / tumblr / deviantart account, or to any other platform. Feel free to post wherever you'd normally post, as long as your fellow fans are able to access it.

If you post to AO3, you are more than welcome to add the fanwork to the Merlin RPF Fests collection. There is also a sub-collection which enables you to post anonymously if you wish: Merlin RPF Fests - anon entries.

2. Post a link to your fanwork to this community

You need to be a member of [livejournal.com profile] merlinrpf to have posting access.

Make sure you've posted your fanwork online, and it's fully viewable, BEFORE posting to the community.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box below, and complete the details. Alternatively, use your own version, as long as you're covering the significant points. Feel free to add more details, as you think relevant!

Feel free to also include a banner / art preview / thumbnail in the post, that links to the fanwork.

3. Tag your post

Tag your entry to the community with the following tags:

  • Characters: 'cast: [name]' for individual characters, if necessary.

  • Type: 'fanworks: [type]'.

  • Relationships: 'pairing: [name/name]' for the main relationship(s), as necessary.

  • Rating: select one only, from G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17.

  • Word count: for fic, select one range only.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for creating for this fest! I really appreciate it, and I'm sure all our fellow fans do, too.

Everyone: Please let's share the love, comments and kudos!

Any queries or problems, please do get in touch with me, and we'll sort it out.

Three cheers for our lovely creators! I've started assigning dates, as listed below. We still have a couple of creators I hope will check in, to round out the week, with posting starting on Saturday 2 May.

If any more creators out there want to claim a posting date - whether or not your creation relates to a specific prompt - please feel free to comment against the check-in post. The more the merrier! ♥
Thank you, all!

Comments to this post are NOT screened.

Woot! It's getting close to the end of this year's prompt fest!

It is now time for creators to check in and claim their posting dates. We'll begin by assuming posting dates from Friday 1 May to Thursday 7 May 2019 inclusive. We can always continue longer if we need to!

Please check in and stake your claim in a new comment directly under this post. If you have more than one fanwork to post, then use a new comment and claim a different date for each one.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box below.

Complete the template with the following details.

  • Your name(s): The name(s) you'll be posting under, including any collaborators. It is perfectly fine to post anonymously.

  • Title: The title of your fanwork. Don't worry if it's a working title for now! Just something to identify it.

  • Fanwork type: The nature of your fanwork, as defined in this post: Fic / Drabble set / Art / Icon set / Fanmix / Fanvid / Other (please specify).

  • Character(s) and/or Pairing(s): Who are the main characters?

  • Your preferred date(s): On which date(s) between 1 and 7 May inclusive would you prefer to post? If you list a few dates, I'll assume they are in order of preference.

  • Date(s) you CANNOT post: Are there any date(s) on which you absolutely CANNOT post?

Comments to this post are screened. Therefore, as soon as things start taking shape, I will post a separate 'posting schedule'. I'll also friend those of you I haven't already (if you don't mind!) so we can discuss any queries or problems via PM.

Planning ahead…

If life happens (as it is wont to do), and you cannot post on your scheduled date, please don't hesitate to contact me (or comment on this post), and we'll come up with a Plan B.

If you switch dates with other participants, that's fine – but please let me know ahead of time!

If you end up finishing an extra fanwork before the end of the fest, please comment against this post. I'm more than happy to add more posting dates if called for!

Information about posting will be available soon. I am so looking forward to 1 May!
