A small survey...

This post is obviously a very poor decision on my part, especially a second before I turn in for the night, but just out of curiosity...

If you've seen the Merlin DVD extras (of the first volume, of course), did it contribute to a Merlin RPS shipping or did it simply serve to reinforce a shipping you were already into? And who do you ship in the fandom?

My reply is in the comments, in case anyone wonders what brought all this on. *coughs nervously*

Yeah, at times I can really see it, and Bradley does seem to fancy Colin like mad, but I just don't know... I know guys who are overly friendly and familiar like that without there being anything more there, so I'm somewhat cautious.

It's a shot from the extras, but it was a very quick shot, during the pranking Angel moment, I think. (I may be mistaken, but that's how I remember it.)

Ah, yes, the infamous arm rub. I can definitely see where you're coming from, but in context it sort of makes sense as Arthur mocking Merlin a little by brushing the vegetables from his sleeve.
I think it was a combination of the Expo convention and seeing them interact there, and the Something for the Weekend interview that first made me consider it.

Haha, the struggles we have to go through! :P

[identity profile] drjenny88.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
That's a fair point, and gives me further reason to watch it some more. I think there's definitely scope for the possibility of there actually being something there, without a doubt.

Yeah, I was there, I met them both (and gave them vegetables as presents - I know that's odd, but w/e) and talked to them a bit. There were a lot of wordless looks going on, and speaking without words is one of the things that really gets to me with a ship.

It's a hardship, but someone's got to do it :P

[identity profile] drjenny88.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'll get back to you on that one :)

Lol actually, the vegetables weren't related to the show at all, it's more a personal tradition now, but that's a good excuse :P Yep, communication without words. SO much. And meaningful glances. I'm almost completely selling myself with the memories.

Ugh, they're far too cool for a portmanteau!

[identity profile] drjenny88.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, it's still considered very weird by anyone I haven't briefed on it beforehand :P I'm just an oddity, I think lol. The vegetables are often covered in messages in marker pen and tippex, lol, they're probably not edible without getting ink poisoning.

I wish. Videoing was very much warned against, unfortunately, but http://geeksyndicate.wordpress.com/2008/10/30/merlin-panel-and-press-interview-at-london-mcm-expo-2008/ has some good recordings. There were a lot of pictures though... I could find you picspams on people's LJs easily enough, and written reviews of the day.

Well, among my friends, we refer to them as the SGs, which is short for the Sex Gods :P I've heard them referred to as 'Jamorgan' too, but I'm not too keen on that. Their names don't lend themselves to portmanteau as well as Merlin and Arthur (I personally call them Merthur, because Arlin sounds too odd to me).

Bradley's butternut squash said:
<3 facial expressions
<3 wrist twirling
<3 being a prince who is more than charming
<3 angst
<3 Arthur

and Colin's squash (not the same as a buttnernut squash) said:
<3 obliviousness
<3 hat wearing
<3 bringing new meaning to the word 'magic'
<3 smiling
<3 Merlin

Lol sounds cheesy, but was inherently awesome :D

Ah, fair enough, they're the only ones I've come across. http://thisissirius.livejournal.com/309410.html That's the link to [livejournal.com profile] thisissirius's review of the day, which has pictures, transcripts and links at the bottom of the page to other people's reviews and pictures :)

Jamorgan sounds vaguely German and intimidating, to me :P I call them Merthur often regardless of whether those on my flist know what I mean lol.

Mind if I friend you?

[identity profile] drjenny88.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Lol well I wasn't meeting them in an official sense... they were crossing the room and all the other fangirls were staring at the table they'd be signing at in a few minutes time and I accosted them randomly on their way (I have no idea how no one else noticed them, but love that I got a good few minutes chatting to them without the interruption of other fans). I did write to them both and got an autograh from Bradley with a message telling me the butternut squash was in his mum's fridge now, "where it will remain until the rot sets in to farcical standards", and an autograph from Colin with a message telling me he'd reply at greater length to my letter when he had more time :D

You'll die, but it'll be the best, slashtastic death ever XD

Haha, that should probably have disturbed me more than it did, but that would be so cool :P In a really weird way... :S

Not in the slightest. I don't scare easily lol, although I frequently scare others, often by telling them random stories about giving vegetables to celebrities... :P

[identity profile] drjenny88.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Lol it makes me mega excited, but I never expect other people to get it... clearly my RL friends have led me to have low expectations on that front :P
His message was fantastic. The full text of it was "Dear Jenny, in return please donate £1 to a charity of your choice" - this was referring to the autographed picture - "Having been shown to everyone I came into contact with that day, the squash has ended up in my mum's fridge and shall remain until the rot sets in to farcical standards." I actually inwardly flail at every word :P His handwriting is lovely, btw, not at all the messy scrawl I'd anticipated.

Haha, yeah, I doubt any of us would mind dying then. Or in the event that either Colin or Bradley professed their love/desire/anything for us :P

CONSIDER THIS ME TEMPTING YOU.
*tempts*
See?
WRITE IT! Please?

Awesome, I'm very glad to hear it XD

[identity profile] drjenny88.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Lol I'll keep trying :P

I KNOW, RIGHT? It's so deserving of capslock lol.

Does a guy who died almost 40 years ago count?
Not if it puts a dampener on any further, however speculative, evidence for actual Colin/Bradley possibilities, no.

Oh, I agree 100% there, but it would still be worth dying over. Clearly if either of them would choose any of us (however incredible we may be; and I extend that 'us' to the whole fandom, not just you and I) over each other, there's some sort of inability to recognise pure godliness going on.

Hehe, I can wait :P
And I'll provide cookies. Or maybe even vegetables ;P

*grins*

[identity profile] drjenny88.livejournal.com 2008-12-09 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, they might come in handy, thanks :P

FOR SRS.

*is intrigued* Do tell this story, anyway.
(I understand perfectly; it's a life skill we should all develop)

I love that they film each other so much, especially the surreptitious filming (although, again, that's mostly Bradley... he so does fancy Colin and is just rubbish at keeping it sekrit :P)

Awesomesauce. Whenever you can, I'd definitely be interested to see what you write for this plotbunny :P
And I can certainly arrange a messaged vegetable ;)

[identity profile] drjenny88.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's such a poignant story... lovely but incredibly heartbreaking.

(trufax :P)

That's such a great stage to be at, and it's so fecking cute to watch in others. With Colin and Bradley, it's even better :)
Btw, I rewatched the CiN clip, and I think you may be right - Colin's expression is slightly bemused and yet also kind of amazed, and Bradley looks so loved up... I'd say Bradley has a definite thing for Colin, but Colin isn't aware of it and thinks it's just friendly banter or something. Especially based on their SftW interview.

Lol no worries, I'm fairly sure they're expecting me already :P
(you'd get something cool but unassuming, like a sweet potato, unless you're opposed to the sweet potato in any way)

[identity profile] drjenny88.livejournal.com 2008-12-10 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, in that case I feel very honoured and pleased :) ♥ to you too.

Yeah, me too. Falling in love is such an astounding experience, especially in those early stages. What's great with these two is that in the show, Merlin seems to be the more emotionally open one, and then Bradley's more emotionally expressive IRL. At least, from my perspective.

I can't imagine anyone being able to resist Colin, especially being around him as much as Bradley has been, but I can fully imagine Bradley being so unsure of Colin's reaction that he's kept it to himself (everyone's blatantly noticed, but he doesn't know they know :P)... I doubt I'm making much sense here lol.

Ooh, sounds like fun :) The foam machine will be particularly awesome!

(glad you approve XD)
