A small survey...
This post is obviously a very poor decision on my part, especially a second before I turn in for the night, but just out of curiosity...
If you've seen the Merlin DVD extras (of the first volume, of course), did it contribute to a Merlin RPS shipping or did it simply serve to reinforce a shipping you were already into? And who do you ship in the fandom?
My reply is in the comments, in case anyone wonders what brought all this on. *coughs nervously*

By the way, your icon... I have to ask, where is it from? Not who made it, but where is it from? If it was in the extras, I missed that shot and I'm a very bad shipper. :|
no subject
It's a shot from the extras, but it was a very quick shot, during the pranking Angel moment, I think. (I may be mistaken, but that's how I remember it.)

I'll have to re-watch then. :D Oh, what a hard life a fangirl leads! And it's an absolutely gorgeous icon. Thank you for the answer!

I think it was a combination of the Expo convention and seeing them interact there, and the Something for the Weekend interview that first made me consider it.
Haha, the struggles we have to go through! :P
no subject
Wait, have you gone to the Expo convention? I've only heard the recordings and the quality is so shite, I couldn't understand a thing. :/
It's a torture, really. We're such brave little souls to go through all this. ;)
no subject
Yeah, I was there, I met them both (and gave them vegetables as presents - I know that's odd, but w/e) and talked to them a bit. There were a lot of wordless looks going on, and speaking without words is one of the things that really gets to me with a ship.
It's a hardship, but someone's got to do it :P
no subject
And seriously, would love to hear your thoughts after re-watching.
Nah, I get it. I would have loved it - shows you're both original and are a loyal follower of the show. And OMG, communication without words? *dies a little* Damnit, I'm trying hard to remind myself that there's still room for some doubt regarding them. You're killing it! XD
They should make us martyrs, really. For our sacrifices in the name of... Brolin? Coley? XD
no subject
Lol actually, the vegetables weren't related to the show at all, it's more a personal tradition now, but that's a good excuse :P Yep, communication without words. SO much. And meaningful glances. I'm almost completely selling myself with the memories.
Ugh, they're far too cool for a portmanteau!
no subject
In that case, I want to move to the UK. That's so much cooler than anything they'd bring here. Me, I love vegetables and would have them happily! :D
communication without words. SO much. And meaningful glances
*is DYING TO THE MOST FATAL DEGREE ONE COULD* Please tell me you have taped this or something! I am a complete whore for eye!sex...
Probably, but they need some sort of a nickname, so we can say "The X are going at the eye!sex again" without having to refer to them as two different entities when they clearly are one by now. ;p

I wish. Videoing was very much warned against, unfortunately, but http://geeksyndicate.wordpress.com/2008/10/30/merlin-panel-and-press-interview-at-london-mcm-expo-2008/ has some good recordings. There were a lot of pictures though... I could find you picspams on people's LJs easily enough, and written reviews of the day.
Well, among my friends, we refer to them as the SGs, which is short for the Sex Gods :P I've heard them referred to as 'Jamorgan' too, but I'm not too keen on that. Their names don't lend themselves to portmanteau as well as Merlin and Arthur (I personally call them Merthur, because Arlin sounds too odd to me).
no subject
I think those might be the recordings I couldn't understand a word from. :/ Ooooh,m yes please, I would love links to picspams and reviews! :D THANK YOU!
*lol* I kinda love the SGs. And while clearer regarding who you're talking about specifically, Jamorgan doesn't sound that inviting. I call Merlin and Arthur that as well, Merthur, but I don't have enough people on my flist t who'll understand who I'm referring to! D:

and Colin's squash (not the same as a buttnernut squash) said:
<3 obliviousness
<3 hat wearing
<3 bringing new meaning to the word 'magic'
<3 smiling
<3 Merlin
Lol sounds cheesy, but was inherently awesome :D
Ah, fair enough, they're the only ones I've come across. http://thisissirius.livejournal.com/309410.html That's the link to
Jamorgan sounds vaguely German and intimidating, to me :P I call them Merthur often regardless of whether those on my flist know what I mean lol.
Mind if I friend you?
no subject
Wheeeeeeeee, thank you! :D I'll go check them out. And die. XD I can tell already that it'll be too much for my poor slasher heart! ;D
OMG, it does. :| And the worst part? It's making me think of an AU where Bradley is a Nazi officer and Colin is a German Jew and Bradley falls in love with him and tries to rescue him from the claws of the Nazi death machine! :o
Oh, I would love that! :D If you're not too scared after that depiction... ;p
no subject
You'll die, but it'll be the best, slashtastic death ever XD
Haha, that should probably have disturbed me more than it did, but that would be so cool :P In a really weird way... :S
Not in the slightest. I don't scare easily lol, although I frequently scare others, often by telling them random stories about giving vegetables to celebrities... :P
no subject
There are very few times when I don't mind dying. This is definitely #2. I believe #1 would be the day when I accidentaslly stumble across Bradley and Colin having sex... :P
DO NOT TEMPT ME TO WRITE IT! D: (Because in a really weird way, I would love every minute of it...)
*lol* In that case, we;rea match made in heaven, as apparently, I don't scare that easily myself. *squishes*
*goes to add you right back* <3

His message was fantastic. The full text of it was "Dear Jenny, in return please donate £1 to a charity of your choice" - this was referring to the autographed picture - "Having been shown to everyone I came into contact with that day, the squash has ended up in my mum's fridge and shall remain until the rot sets in to farcical standards." I actually inwardly flail at every word :P His handwriting is lovely, btw, not at all the messy scrawl I'd anticipated.
Haha, yeah, I doubt any of us would mind dying then. Or in the event that either Colin or Bradley professed their love/desire/anything for us :P
CONSIDER THIS ME TEMPTING YOU.
*tempts*
See?
WRITE IT! Please?
Awesome, I'm very glad to hear it XD
no subject
OMG! :D I totally get it, I mean I'M FLAILING and that's not even a message to me! I'm beyond excited for you that you got this message from him!
His handwriting is lovely, btw, not at all the messy scrawl I'd anticipated.
:o
:|
XD
GAY.
for Colin...Well actually, I have known gay men with messy handwriting, but never a straight man with a nice one. Don't know why. Mmmmm, no wait. Maybe one. Does a guy who died almost 40 years ago count?Or in the event that either Colin or Bradley professed their love/desire/anything for us
That would just make me question their sanity. I mean, if you choose me over either Colin or Bradley, there's clearly something wrong with you (no disrespect to myself, just... an admission of the SGs' total and complete awesomeness which cannot be surpassed).
THIS IS ME SAYING 'NO' VERY CLEARLY, LOUDLY AND BLUNTLY...! Ummm... no. Or, you know, not before I finish the Merthur fic I'm currently writing. ;) BUT THEN I WANT COOKIES! XD
*squishes*
no subject
I KNOW, RIGHT? It's so deserving of capslock lol.
Does a guy who died almost 40 years ago count?
Not if it puts a dampener on any further, however speculative, evidence for actual Colin/Bradley possibilities, no.
Oh, I agree 100% there, but it would still be worth dying over. Clearly if either of them would choose any of us (however incredible we may be; and I extend that 'us' to the whole fandom, not just you and I) over each other, there's some sort of inability to recognise pure godliness going on.
Hehe, I can wait :P
And I'll provide cookies. Or maybe even vegetables ;P
*grins*
no subject
I wouldn't have believed it but, YES, YES IT DOES! XD
Uh, good thing I never really met him then. I have no real evidence he did write those letters I was shown, have I?
(also, I have my way with distorting logic to the benefit of slash everywhere)
there's some sort of inability to recognise pure godliness going on.
which would be highly ironic, considering the amount of time they spend filming each other...
*giggles* Good. Because if you have cookies, you can obviously tempt me into anything. Unless you have vegetables with messages on 'em, in which case you can talk me into anything and a half. ;)
no subject
FOR SRS.
*is intrigued* Do tell this story, anyway.
(I understand perfectly; it's a life skill we should all develop)
I love that they film each other so much, especially the surreptitious filming (although, again, that's mostly Bradley... he so does fancy Colin and is just rubbish at keeping it sekrit :P)
Awesomesauce. Whenever you can, I'd definitely be interested to see what you write for this plotbunny :P
And I can certainly arrange a messaged vegetable ;)
no subject
And much like rock n' roll, CAPSLOCKING OVER THIS WILL NEVER DIE!
Oh, I was shown the letters written by an Israeli officer who was killed in a rescue operation back in 1976. His handwriting was surprisingly beautiful and the thoughts expressed uncommonly deep. I got the distinct impression from the letters that he knew he was not going to come back from his mission and upon meeting one of his army friends, the guy confirmed that that's precisely what "my" guy told him before separated on the morning of the rescue mission. And while there were some slight homoerotic overtones in the letters, to the best of everyone's knowledge he was straight. I swear, he's possibly my #1 straight man ever. I admire his courage so much. It wasn't his first rescue mission either, and he has been wounded in battle before, so he knew exactly what he was getting himself into, you know?
(that skill, it's almost like magic, only with fewer phallic symbols involved... ;) )
I know, right? It's like if Bradley could just sit around and watch Colin all day long, he'd be perfectly content. Except he wouldn't be, because he would have an overwhelming need to tease Colin all the freaking time, just to hear Colin retort. It's that stage of falling in love when just being around the person you're into is intoxicating and you just can't get enough of it!
Okay, done deal! :D But at the Gates of Hell, I'm totally giving them your name, we're clear on that, right? ;p
(cool! Now I'm just curious to know which vegetable would I get...)
no subject
(trufax :P)
That's such a great stage to be at, and it's so fecking cute to watch in others. With Colin and Bradley, it's even better :)
Btw, I rewatched the CiN clip, and I think you may be right - Colin's expression is slightly bemused and yet also kind of amazed, and Bradley looks so loved up... I'd say Bradley has a definite thing for Colin, but Colin isn't aware of it and thinks it's just friendly banter or something. Especially based on their SftW interview.
Lol no worries, I'm fairly sure they're expecting me already :P
(you'd get something cool but unassuming, like a sweet potato, unless you're opposed to the sweet potato in any way)
no subject
Isn't it? I'd like to fall in love now just to be at that stage again. ;) And with Bradley and Colin, it's incredible. Especially what with it being Bradley that's so openly smitten! :D
Colin's expression is slightly bemused and yet also kind of amazed, and Bradley looks so loved up
That's exactly it! Damn, now I wanna watch that clip again. Nope, can't, must write fic. But I agree with your analysis completely and I'd add that I hope at some point it just wasn't enough for Bradley and he took it one step further. Which c'mon, I can't see how he could do anything else around Colin. ;) So the only question that remains is when did that happen...
Cool, we can have the wickedest party ever there! And I do mean literally. ;p (I'm going to order a foam machine for it right now)
(just how much awesome are you made of? I love that choice! XD )
no subject
Yeah, me too. Falling in love is such an astounding experience, especially in those early stages. What's great with these two is that in the show, Merlin seems to be the more emotionally open one, and then Bradley's more emotionally expressive IRL. At least, from my perspective.
I can't imagine anyone being able to resist Colin, especially being around him as much as Bradley has been, but I can fully imagine Bradley being so unsure of Colin's reaction that he's kept it to himself (everyone's blatantly noticed, but he doesn't know they know :P)... I doubt I'm making much sense here lol.
Ooh, sounds like fun :) The foam machine will be particularly awesome!
(glad you approve XD)
no subject
I know, right? *curses the lack of appropriate love interests around* Even my almost-date failed to catch my intention and is trying to bring a friend to the cafe we agreed to meet in. Arthur much? *rolls eyes*
Merlin seems to be the more emotionally open one, and then Bradley's more emotionally expressive IRL
Precisely what I mean, and he's so giddy about it too! Merlin is just a little cautious, but Bradley is just out there and he sort of reminds me of the way I was acting when I first fell in love, I mean really fell. I couldn't care about anything or anyone.
There's something about a guy calling another guy special without a hint of irony that says "I am so over resisting", though I could imagine Bradley being scared to let his feelings known. I'm sure the scene you've described is precisely how things played out. I'm just curious whether that didn't change at any point.
Heeee, we'll have a mirror ball, the foam machine, tons of history's most fabulous gays and we'll party like it's 1979. XD
