Hello, Merlin fam! I hope you are all doing OK during these strange times.

This is just an informal post to see how everyone is, and offer encouragement (or anything else that is needed) to those participating in the Prompt Fest this year.

Speaking for myself, I have to admit to feeling a bit flat. The constant low-level anxiety tends to put a lid on my creative instincts. However, I find that if I sit down and insist on getting started, I can still write something at least passable. How are you finding the changes / restrictions and the isolation? Perhaps it is in fact the ideal situation for you to get creative...?

This fest is fairly relaxed in how it's run, so if you belatedly want to participate in any way, please do feel free! I've copied links below to two of the significant posts, and of course you can query anything via the comments or messages.

The next date in the schedule is Saturday 25 April, when creators can check in and claim a posting date. We hope to be posting from Friday 1 May.

Meanwhile, please stay safe and healthy - and share the Merlin RPF love!

Posting and Claiming Prompts: https://merlinrpf.livejournal.com/218437.html
[identity profile] mrs-leary.livejournal.com

Thank you, everyone! We have received some lovely prompts and they are now available for claiming. More prompts are also welcome!

Please read the Prompts and Claims Guidelines and the Fills Guidelines before claiming.

Then go to the POST YOUR PROMPTS! CLAIM THE PROMPTS! post and:

  • Claim by replying directly to the prompt-comment.

  • Mention what kind of fanwork you are creating for this prompt, e.g. ‘Claimed for art!’ or ‘Claimed for crochet!’

  • If you are taking the prompt as a starting point but envisage going completely off the grid with it, please say something about that in your claim. This acknowledges your inspiration, but also frees up the prompt for further claiming for any type of fanwork.

  • Feel free to claim more than one prompt, but please be realistic, so you’re not tying up prompts that won’t end up getting filled.

  • Feel free to claim any unclaimed prompts left from earlier fests, but add a comment to this year's post to let us know.

Importantly: Claiming will remain open until the check-in date, so do come back for more when you’re ready! I will also leave prompting open, so there could be new prompts there, waiting for good homes.

If you plan to create a fanwork based on your own ideas, you can add a comment to the POST YOUR PROMPTS! CLAIM THE PROMPTS! post to let us know - but that’s optional. Either way, you can claim a posting date when it comes time, if you'd like to share any new Merlin RPF via the fest.

The imported POST YOUR PROMPTS! CLAIM YOUR PROMPTS! post is here on Dreamwidth. It seems there are no new prompts on Dreamwidth, but you might like to use DW rather than LJ to claim and otherwise be involved.

Feel free to discuss your work with whoever you need to, whether the original prompter, your friends, or me.

The next formal date is 25 April 2019 for creators to check in and claim a posting date.

Huzzah! Claim, create, and have oodles of fun!

Here are four promo banners for the fest that I made myself. If any of you lovely (proper) artists would like to create more, please do and I'll add them here!

Please feel free to share these wherever you would like to. All promo is welcome. Copy the HTML code from the text box below the image, and paste it where appropriate.

There are also icons at the bottom of the post, if you want to colour-coordinate.

If other fests and communities would like some reciprocal promo, that would be wonderful!

Please read the Prompts and Claims Guidelines before you post a prompt. (The 2020 guidelines are the same as for 2018.)

Post each prompt in a new comment directly under this post.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box at the bottom of this post.

Complete the template with the essentials of your prompt. (Try not to be too prescriptive. Leave room for the creator to be creative.)

Feel free to recycle / update prompts from earlier fests, if they haven't yet been filled.

  • Character(s) and/or Pairing(s): Who is most involved in the story and/or who is involved with whom…? Focus on the main character(s), and any secondary character(s) with a key role.

  • Time and/or Place: When and where is this set? Are they still filming Merlin, is it set before then or since then, does it take place in an imaginary future – or is it an alternate version of any of those?

  • Prompt: Provide a succinct description of the key element(s) of your prompt, including any relevant trope(s).

POST YOUR PROMPTS! https://merlinrpf.livejournal.com/218437.html

Here's to another awesome fest! For the love of Camelot!
[identity profile] mrs-leary.livejournal.com
I'm so happy about our awesome Prompt Fest this year! It's so smooth and easy to run - no headaches at all to detract from all the lovely new fic and art being created. You're all too awesome!

Thank you so much for participating - to all the prompters, creators, and readers / viewers / commenters who got involved. While we still adore our OTP, we've also created new pairing tags, which I feel is one of the markers of a good fest.

There are still plenty of fine prompts left unclaimed, so feel free to be inspired and to share the results with us at any time throughout the year.

The following goodies were created for the fest. If you haven't visited the creations yet, please drop by - I'm sure you'll be inspired to leave some kudos and maybe a comment in return for your enjoyment.

Thank you again! See you same time next year...?!
[identity profile] mrs-leary.livejournal.com

Hurrah! Posting is scheduled to begin on 1 May. We are expecting another couple of stories, if all goes well - but there are a couple of empty days, if anyone would like to participate, whether or not you're responding to a particular prompt.

This post describes how to post your fanwork for the Prompt Fest.

The posting schedule is here if you want to check it: https://merlinrpf.livejournal.com/215636.html

You can also check in and claim a posting date here: https://merlinrpf.livejournal.com/215469.html

1. Post your fanwork online

You can post your fanwork at any time during the 24 hours of your scheduled day (based on your local time).

You can post your fanwork to this community, to your own journal, to your AO3 / tumblr / deviantart account, or to any other platform. Feel free to post wherever you'd normally post, as long as your fellow fans are able to access it.

If you post to AO3, you are more than welcome to add the fanwork to the Merlin RPF Fests collection. There is also a sub-collection which enables you to post anonymously if you wish: Merlin RPF Fests - anon entries.

2. Post a link to your fanwork to this community

You need to be a member of [livejournal.com profile] merlinrpf to have posting access.

Make sure you've posted your fanwork online, and it's fully viewable, BEFORE posting to the community.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box below, and complete the details. Alternatively, use your own version, as long as you're covering the significant points. Feel free to add more details, as you think relevant!

Feel free to also include a banner / art preview / thumbnail in the post, that links to the fanwork.

3. Tag your post

Tag your entry to the community with the following tags:

  • Characters: 'cast: [name]' for individual characters, as necessary.

  • Type: 'fanworks: [type]'.

  • Relationships: 'pairing: [name/name]' for the main relationship(s), as necessary.

  • Rating: select one only, from G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17.

  • Word count: for fic, select one range only.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for creating for this fest! I really appreciate it, and I'm sure all our fellow fans do, too.

Everyone: Please let's share the love, comments and kudos!

Any queries or problems, please do get in touch with me, and we'll sort it out.

[identity profile] mrs-leary.livejournal.com
We already have a few lovely creators claiming posting dates, so I've started assigning dates, and listed them below. (Let me know if you have concerns, but no one is listed for a date they said they couldn't make.)

If any more creators out there want to claim a posting date - whether or not your creation relates to a specific prompt - please feel free to comment against the check-in post. The more the merrier! ♥
Thank you, all!

Comments to this post are NOT screened.
[identity profile] mrs-leary.livejournal.com

Woot! It's getting close to the end of this year's prompt fest!

It is now time for creators to check in and claim their posting dates. We'll begin by assuming posting dates from Wednesday 1 May to Tuesday 7 May 2019 inclusive. We can always continue longer if we need to!

Please check in and stake your claim in a new comment directly under this post. If you have more than one fanwork to post, then use a new comment and claim a different date for each one.

Copy-and-paste the template provided in the box below.

Complete the template with the following details.

  • Your name(s): The name(s) you'll be posting under, including any collaborators. It is perfectly fine to post anonymously.

  • Title: The title of your fanwork. Don't worry if it's a working title for now! Just something to identify it.

  • Fanwork type: The nature of your fanwork, as defined in this post: Fic / Drabble set / Art / Icon set / Fanmix / Fanvid / Other (please specify).

  • Character(s) and/or Pairing(s): Who are the main characters?

  • Your preferred date(s): On which date(s) between 1 and 7 May inclusive would you prefer to post? If you list a few dates, I'll assume they are in order of preference.

  • Date(s) you CANNOT post: Are there any date(s) on which you absolutely CANNOT post?

Comments to this post are screened. Therefore, as soon as things start taking shape, I will post a separate 'posting schedule'. I'll also friend those of you I haven't already (if you don't mind!) so we can discuss any queries or problems via PM.

Planning ahead…

If life happens (as it is wont to do), and you cannot post on your scheduled date, please don't hesitate to contact me (or comment on this post), and we'll come up with a Plan B.

If you switch dates with other participants, that's fine – but please let me know ahead of time!

If you end up finishing an extra fanwork before the end of the fest, please comment against this post. I'm more than happy to add more posting dates if called for!

Information about posting will be available soon. I am so looking forward to 1 May!
