disclaimer: I am fully aware that none of this ever happened.
teaser: “Those,” declared Bradley, “are not Colin's ears.” Because they weren't.
a/n: It's just a silly little thing, but I haven't written any RPF or Merlin before, so I'm just getting my feet wet. I wrote this in response to the "ear fetish" prompt on
kinkme_merlin. Couldn't resist a challenge that matched a scene I already had in my head.
“Those,” declared Bradley, “are not Colin’s ears.” Because they weren’t.
The line of his nose, somehow both strong and delicate, was just right. The sharp cheekbones and the long, narrow shape of his face were perfectly captured. Even the mischievous sparkle in his eyes looked quintessentially Colin-as-Merlin. Truly, Bradley would be impressed, if it weren’t for the ears.
Bradley dropped the book on the table with what he hoped was a properly indignant thump.
“What are you on about?” Angel finally looked up from the script she was studying and craned her neck to look at the cover. The book on the table between them was the first of a set of young adult novels based on the series. Of the cast, Colin was the only one who’d read it. He’d pronounced it about as good as you’d think a young adult novel based on a television series would be, saving the rest of them the trouble.
“I said, the artist got Colin’s ears wrong.”
Angel contemplated the cover for a moment, before shrugging. “Yeah, I guess they are a bit small. You were expecting them to hire Da Vinci?”
“No, you’re missing the point…” Bradley shook his head and waved his hand incoherently, searching for words. “It’s… the rest of it’s pretty good, so… the point is he… or she or whoever… made them smaller on purpose. So… it’s kind of an insult, if you get what I mean.”
Angel just raised her eyebrows and waited for him to continue.
“I mean… it’s like the artist is saying his ears should be smaller… which is just insulting.” And also not true, Bradley didn’t add.
“You actually going to read that?” Colin’s voice sounded suddenly from the doorway, and Bradley started.
“Er…” Colin looked between Bradley and Angel, eyes narrowing a bit as he considered Bradley’s slightly guilty expression. “Did I miss something?”
“Bradley was just saying how your ears are hot,” Angel said casually.
Bradley spluttered.
Colin, frozen in the doorway, blushed a furious Irish pink, right to the tips of his adorable ears.

About Colin reading the book: I imagined him feeling its his duty to immerse himself in all things related to the part.

P.S. I want to read your username as "September" ("month" in Mandarin and the roman numeral 9). Am I anywhere close?

That would be great, but sadly my username is way less thoughtful and poetic - Yue was intended as the moon character, an anime's character name, and the IX was after a metro station in my hometown (itself named after the pope). I've had it for almost a decade since back then it sounded original, and just never changed it. :)
