Morning, all!

Well, just to prove that I don't know my way around Dreamwidth (yet), I have belatedly realised that there is indeed already a mirror community on Dreamwidth, though it currently doesn't have any content beyond an intro post: [community profile] merlinrpf

Moonie has now kindly granted me admin rights, so we are good to go!

My intention is to import all the content from this LJ community to the Dreamwidth community next weekend, and to update that every month or so. This should at least give us a good back-up / fall-back position, and may also attract more members.

If anyone has any problems or concerns with this, please let me know! I'm happy to consider any useful solutions that will best serve the community and its members.

Thank you kindly.

Hello, everyone, and happy new year! I trust that your 2017 is peaceful and preposterous.

Given the move of LiveJournal content to servers in Russia (not exactly known for being LGBTQ-friendly!) and with the thought that it would be wise to have a back-up / mirror site anyway, I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts about me creating a Merlin RPF community on Dreamwidth and importing our content there.

I have to say that while I have a mrs_leary account over there, I don't really know my way around. But better to get used to something extra than run the risk of losing everything...?

I had a quick look around, but couldn't find an exisitng community along the same lines. I might have completely missed it, though, so feel free to tell me if so!

Also, feel free to tell me if there's a better alternative... It's times like this that I wish AO3 wasn't only an archive!

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] clo makes a fair point. It's probable that I'll do this, and at some point import all our content. There is no way to really filter content in an import - it's either all posts or none. Which includes all fic posted directly to the community. If any authors have a problem with that, please contact me via the comments or a message. We're all about preserving the content, but I realise that might not suit everyone.

Hello, dear RPF'ers!

As you may notice, I have now implemented a new layout for the community. To be honest, it's rather less minimalist than I usually like, but it took me a while to find a layout where I knew I could tweak what I wanted. If further tweaks are needed, please don't hesitate to raise them via the comments!

We had some cautious interest in a mini bang, so I will have a think about that, and probably get it started in September, with posting in February. Stay tuned for more details.

Meanwhile, I hope some of you have managed to catch Rupert in his latest theatre run... It's well worth being there when he drops the eiderdown, if you know what I mean!!!

Thank you again, everyone, for taking part in (or even just silently lurking in the dark corners of) our Promptacular Fest 2016! It's been a lot of fun, and proves there's still plenty of life and passion in the Merlin RPF fandom.

So, what mischief shall we get up to next?

Sprucing up the community

I have loved the look and feel of our community, so this is not a criticism. However, we've had some changes, the banner is MIA, and after proudly being in existence for almost eight years, it's probably time for a bit of renewal on the design front.

I am happy to do it myself, but I would also be very happy for an artist or designer to volunteer their help. You were all very kind about my Promptacular banners, but I remain an amateur in this regard.

Feel free to offer via the comments, a message, or email, and we'll talk. But I am looking to work on this fairly soon, as I have a smidgen of free time.

Mini big bang!

When I held a poll about what sort of fest or event we wanted, a prompts fest came first, but a mini big bang came close behind. So shall we give that a try...?

This is me thinking aloud:

  • I'm not really across all the other Merlin events and fests that are happening, and maybe it would be almost impossible not to conflict with something. But if anyone wants to suggest there are certain times we should avoid, please illuminate me!

  • We could run our mini bang over the latter part of this year, i.e. starting in July and posting in November, December or January.

  • Longer fills would be very welcome, but I think we could set a fairly modest minimum of 10,000 words for fic, or the equivalent kind of effort in any other type of fanwork?

  • Pairings of creators with two different types of fanwork (e.g. fic and art, dance and knitting) would be very welcome, and I'd love to help with that if I can - but maybe the invitations and offers need to be driven by the creators...? When creators sign up for the mbb, perhaps one of the items is to say whether they're interested in working with a fellow creator.

  • My intention is that this be slightly more formal than the prompt fest (e.g. creators must have a beta), but otherwise you'll have a feel already about how I run fests - and now is a good chance to make any (polite!) suggestions or requests about how this one will work!

Over to you, dear fellow fans! I'm very interested in your responses to all of the above!

Welcome to The Merlin RPF Promptacular Fest of 2016, hosted on the [livejournal.com profile] merlinrpf community and run by [livejournal.com profile] mrs_leary.

This post is the ‘central hub’ of the fest. It includes the schedule and links to the guidelines – and if you have any queries, please use the comments here.

Thanks are humbly offered to the [livejournal.com profile] tavern_tales and [livejournal.com profile] untold_legends communities for running such great fests. I am a newbie to running fests, so I trust it’s considered flattery if I learn from them. [livejournal.com profile] emjayelle has been particularly supportive. ♥

Schedule

The following is the schedule for The Merlin RPF Promptacular Fest of 2016.

  • Friday 25 March: Prompting opens.

  • Friday 1 April: Prompting closes at 2:00 pm BST (British Summer Time).

  • Saturday 2 April: Claiming opens at 2:00 pm BST. Claiming will remain open until the check-in date.

  • Saturday 21 May: Creators to check in and claim a posting date.

  • Wednesday 1 June: Posting of fanworks begins.

Ask the Mod!

If you have any queries or concerns not covered in the Prompts and Claims Guidelines or the Fills Guidelines, or you wish to discuss some aspect of the fest, then please use the comments in this post.

If you would prefer to discuss something in private, then please PM me [livejournal.com profile] mrs_leary or email me mrs_leary@live.co.uk.

I will always follow up with you as soon as I possibly can. However, please remember that (like most of us) I am juggling a variety of commitments.

Hello, everyone!

I've had the honour of being made co-maintainer of this community, which has brought us so much joy (and fictional angst!) over the years. We're a little quieter now than we used to be, alas - though of course I do very much appreciate those of you who've kept the home fires burning.

I wondered if it was time to run a challenge or fest, to help fan those flames...? It can be as low-key and easy to participate as you wish. I'd like to see it as inclusive and welcoming as possible:

  • for rare pairs and lower profile 'characters' as well as the more popular

  • for general and character-related work as well as romantic relationships

  • for all kinds of fills, whether fiction or art or interpretive knitting and things I can't even imagine.

I have to admit that while I've maintained and moderated communities before, I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to running challenges and fests. So I'll be relying on your patience! But I'm really keen to keep this community happening, and this seemed a good way of doing that.

What do you think...? Please feel free to use the comments and/or the poll to let me know!

Thank you to everyone who posted their works to the community in the past few days.

An amnesty posting period will run from now until Sunday the 4th January for anyone who'd like an extra few days to complete their works and include them in the bang.

I'll close the fest and post a masterlist on Monday the 5th January.

Happy Holidays everyone!

Thanks to everyone for checking in at the last post, I appreciate it!

A few of you weren't sure if you'd be able to complete your works.

This post is to give you the opportunity to update me on your status.

Posting will start around the 15th December, depending on how many submissions we end up with. Please let me know in the comments if you're still in and okay to post after that date, or unable to continue.

I will schedule posting dates as soon as I hear from you all.

Just one more thing. Remember that no matter what happens,
